animato-calmo für Klarinette, Violine, Violoncello und Klavier

The musical language of this little piece represents a further step in my personal development. It consists of two parts – animato and calmo – which form a contrast in tempo and character. In the first part a steadily, sometimes a bit nervous movement is presented which is based on a melodic line grounded by pizzicati – in the second part spheric sounds are often interrupted by “points of rest”. This second part thus could be interpreted as a questioning of the first part. Movement and sound – these are the deeply contrasting principles of this piece. Nevertheless these contrasts do not affect the inner musical language as far as harmonic aspects are concerned. This “inner” language which holds together the musical architecture in its inner life is formed by harmonic permutations of chords – a method which should not be mixed up with serial twelve-tone thinking. The chordal permutations in animato - calmo tend to reach harmonic centres in a specific order which are an integral part of the piece and sometimes remind the listener on tonal aspects.
